Sarah Prescott Of La Canada Wins Commemorative Poster Contest For Tenth Annual AKC/Eukanuba National Championship

NEW YORK, NY – Artist Sarah Prescott’s stunning depiction of a variety of purebred dogs and puppies surrounding a silver trophy and colorful Best in Show ribbon will become the 2010 AKC/Eukanuba National Championship commemorative poster. Prescott of La Canada, California won the annual poster contest with the watercolor entitled “The Future of AKC”.

“When I received the phone call telling me that my entry had won I was shocked and elated. I’m honored that my painting is going to represent the 2010 AKC National Championship,” Prescott explains. “I have been painting pet portraits for a few years now and became inspired to do this poster to represent the future of the AKC and to support Take the Lead.

“Prescott has specialized in watercolor on paper since she began painting pet portraits because it allows her the freedom to layer many colors over one another, achieving a very special effect. On her selection of breeds for the poster she explains, “I wanted to include a wide variety of breeds from the various groups. They represent some of the wonderful dogs that have brought me great pleasure over the years as an artist.” Prescott has two furry friends in her family, a Weimaraner named Benjamin, and Yorkshire Terrier named Winnie.

Prescott will be signing posters at the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship on December 4th and 5th. Net proceeds from the poster sale will be donated to TAKE THE LEAD, a not-for-profit foundation dedicated to providing direct services, support and care for all qualified participants in the sport of dogs who suffer from the devastating realities of life-threatening or terminal illnesses.

“We are pleased to offer the proceeds to Take the Lead, an organization that has gone above and beyond in assisting members of our sport in times of need, ” says Gina DiNardo, Assistant Vice President of the AKC. “This is a great opportunity for dog lovers to take home a piece of the show and our history, while supporting a cause that gives back to the sport.”

Thousands of top dogs from around the globe will compete on December 4th and 5th 2010 for $225,000 in prize money and the chance to be named National Champion, one of the biggest honors in the dog world. The event will once again be held in Long Beach, CA in conjunction with the AKC Agility Invitational and the AKC National Obedience Invitational, showcasing a multitude of canine talents under one roof. Ventura County Fairgrounds is located on the beach in the city of Ventura, about 1 hour north of Los Angeles and about 30 minutes south of Santa Barbara.

From the Ventura Freeway (Highway 101) northbound, take the Seaward Ave. exit or the California Street exit. Turn left towards the ocean to Harbor Blvd., turn right on Harbor and continue until you reach Ventura County Fairgrounds at the corner of Harbor and Figueroa.
